Men’s 5s played Edgbaston 6s, coinciding with a break in the weather and the sun shining. A late fitness test for Hembo led to myself dropping into the back two with Tom Hand, who went on to his first man of the match with a series of excellent last tackles and great communication. We twice went behind but a strong performance with some lovely passing and team spirit saw first Stephen Smedley and then George Edwards restore an equal footing. A stunning shot from George was tipped over by an equally brilliant save by the opposition keeper but the game ended at a probably fair 2-2. DoD for Henry Edwards for a miss hit despite George wearing his shorts backwards unnoticed until after awards were issued. Big thanks to Tom Duffy and George Bence for umpiring. An enjoyable match that continues our undefeated start, with 23 players having featured so far (and a few more we hope to have playing soon). The hockey was again some of the best I’ve seen and I think M5s are at present moving from their traditional “never say die” battles to some more technical hockey (while retaining the great spirit and attitude of the team and club). Great to see another U18 as MoM too today with 3 other U18s also having strong games.
