The ladies' 1s got their season up and running with a tricky first game against a Sutton Coldfield 2s side which featured all time hockey legend Jane Sixsmith (go and look her up if you don’t know who she is! #legend). After conceding a couple of early goals, we woke up and started to join the attacking party, with Joey Turnbull scoring through a short corner strike. Cerys Bate looked lively up front creating some good opportunities, and was unfortunate not to level the score. A positive was the way players pushed forward making us look more of an attacking threat as the half wore on. Unfortunately we were unable to covert this pressure into an equaliser without being exposed at the back. Sutton made it 3-1 at half time which could have been more without some excellent saves by Josie Morris. The second half had a similar look about it along with some heavy preseason legs. Issy Allison created the moment of the half by scoring our second goal, but we were unable to create more clear cut chances. In the end the match resulted in a 5-2 win for Sutton Coldfield. The highlight of the game was the return of Clare Third following a long term injury who slotted in as if she'd never been away. Fitness and quicker passes are the main targets for the coming weeks!!
